Apple and Beatles build bridges

Apple Computer today has announced a new deal the the lawyers representing the Beatles old 1970s label, Apple Records.

Apple Computer, which changed its name recently to be just Apple, has struck a new arrangement. From now on, Apple (the computer company) completely owns the Apple name!

The Beatles, in turn, will license the name back from Apple.

Seems like a smart arrangement.

The Beatles band broke up about three and a half decades ago. The breakup occurred several years before the two Steves founded Apple computer.

The breakup, ironically, had to do with contracts, royalties, and the business side of the band. The sort of things that had a lot to do with the creation and operation of the Apple Records label.

Even in their heyday, the record company was probably not drawing in the kind of annual revenue that the computer does. Surely it was not employing as many people. It could not have possibly as been as big an enterprise, or made as much of an impact in the market in general.

Hopefully, this means that The Beatles music will soon be finding its way onto the Apple Store.

It also signals the end to a long-standing recurrent battle that has erupted off and on for a couple of decades.

Thank goodness it is over!
